Acrida turrita
Behaviour:
Acrida turrita (Fig. 21) has a highly structured (di) with linearly spaced nodules, the larger ones of which, at regular intervals, bear stiff bristles. The ventral inner carina, however, is smooth and polished, bearing well spaced alternating long and short hairs. The insects would thus seem to be unable to stridulate or to have a very weak ability to do so. Their crepitation, however, is demonstrably powerful, as observation on a sunny afternoon in late rainy season, sahelian savanna will attest. [1]
