Tettigonia caudata

Behaviour:

The calling son, produced during both the day and night, is very similar to the daytime song of T. cantans, consisting of loud, sibilant echemes lasting about 1-5 s and with a crescendo in the first half of each echeme. Other characteristics of the song, such as syllable duration and repetition rate, also resemble those of T. cantans, and are also dependant on temperature, but the song of T, caudata, unlike that of T. cantans, never seems to become completely continuous at night. Behaviour:

The song consists of short bursts of buzzing, each of which begins quietly and becomes louder. It sounds distinctly softer than T. cantans and is audible only from about 10-20m. [1]
