Abstract:

1. The elytro-dorsoabdominal stridulatory-apparatus of three native Necrophorus species have been investigated more closely with the aid of thes the stereoscan.

2. The course of the paired “partes stridentes” on the 5th abdominal tergit is characteristic for each species.

3. The paired plectrums are located on the back edge of the lower side of the elytrae and are protected against pollution by chitinous setae.

4. Besides defensive stridulation compared to earlier studies, species-specific communication is assumed.
