Literature

Delorme, Quentin (2017). Caledopsalta gen. nov., a new genus for the New Caledonian cicadas previously assigned to Pauropsalta Goding & Froggatt, plus the description of four new species (Hemiptera: Cicadoidea: Cicadidae). Austral Entomology.

Behaviour

Five different records were analysed to describe the male calling of Caledopsalta judithae comb. nov. The male calling song (Fig. 28) is composed of a succession of sequences between 3 and 12 s in duration and separated by intervals of 4 to 8 s. Sequences are formed by a regular succession of short echemes, each containing two groups of pulses, and emitted at a rate of 22 echemes per second. The frequency ranges from 10 000 to > 20 000 Hz. The main power is located between 13 500 and 16 500 Hz, with maximum power at around 14 500 kHz.
