Psophus stridulus
Behaviour:
Males fly with a loud rattling sound, which is produced by the hind wings. Together with the strikingly bright red wings, this may serve to startle potential enemies. It also has a function in courtship. In cooler weather and after repeated disturbance, the insects fly quietly. The females can rattle while sitting or jumping. [1]
